Engine, chassis and transmission

There isn't much of a difference when it comes to motor specs and output performance. The Yamaha R15 produces 18.4 PS of power with 14.1 Nm of torque while the CBR reaches 17.13 PS and 14.4 Nm.

The important difference is the use of dual cams on the Honda CBR while the Yamaha R15 uses a single cam. However, the gearbox on both cars uses a 6-speed ratio with assist technology and anti-slip clutch.

Chassis, suspension and brakes

Honda used a Diamond frame to build the CBR while Yamaha used a delta frame to support the R15.

Front suspension is reverse travel fork on both bikes, while monoshock is standard at the rear on Honda and Yamaha. The Yamaha R15 uses a slightly wider rear tire (140mm) and it also has a larger 282mm front disc.

Features and devices

In terms of features, Yamaha is one step ahead thanks to the generous level of equipment included. It has an LCD device control panel with fully digital functionality and Bluetooth connectivity.

In addition, Yamaha has chosen to equip this bike with a traction control technology and quick shifts (optional) not often found on other bikes in this segment. Yamaha owners also have access to the Y-connect app to stay connected through a number of advanced features. The Honda CBR lacks the new-age features offered by the Yamaha R15. The only feature it can boast of is the fully digital control panel and LED lights.

Even the two-channel ABS system, standard Yamaha equipment, is only offered on some Honda variants.

Price and value for money

The Yamaha R15 costs more as it asks potential buyers to shell out Rs 1.75 lakh (old showroom). Honda can gain a significant advantage here if they can price the next CBR more competitively. Considering the nature of India being a price sensitive market, Honda could indeed benefit from CBR's price competitiveness and achieve the desired results in terms of sales.
