Normally a trader uses some strategy to enter a trade. An EA also uses some strategy. What is an average duration for a successful strategy, developed for Forex, by a trader or an EA? Try to answer it based on your experience.

I think it depends on the developing method of strategy. Some strategies are developed for short terms and some for long terms. There cannot be a fixed or average duration for these strategies.

Stick to your rules

In my opinion, it purely depends on profitability of system or strategy. As long as it gives you profit it is valid. There maybe some changes needed with the time but overall a successful strategy works for long term.

As long as you r a good statistician, you can make a good strategy and you can also test it. It may need little changes but not an overall change. A good strategy cannot expire because it is based on statistical data. It is possible that due to market conditions, sometimes you earn profit sometimes loss. You can always make better strategies depending on experience.

Right on point.. A strategy that works today would still work in the next 10 years..The market never changes from my point of view, the only diff. there is from time to time is volatility, and that is not market change cos volatility is the beauty of the market. You dont have to predict the market, follow the big moves..

Successful strategy cannot measured by trader Maximum duration...each person has own target, some are scalper (who take profit less than 10 minute) and other are longterm (might need few days to take profit).

But we can measure trader consistency by looking their 'Maximum Duration'.......if someone looks take profit between 'few minutes until some days', so my opinion this kind trader are not consistent on his trade, Equity chart will showing volatile compared than Balance.

but if he trade and take profit between same duration.....I believe this is a 'consistent trade',,,,,,,this kind trader know when to enter & when to exit from market.

It takes years of hard work and experience to form a trading plan which is profitable and successful as many changes need to be done from time to time and things altered and added. So once a trading strategy is formed and it is profitable its duration is for life time or until it is made more better .

The market changes all the time.  A single strategy executed all the time is doomed to failure.  The market trends or consolidates or ranges (range being a large consolidation basically, and trends being a leg of an enormous range).  Trend following strategies take multiple losses in consolidating or ranging markets.  Tight grid strategies lose heavily in trending or ranging markets.  Look at most 'successful' signal providers - their systems last about 3 months then flatten or die off.  This is roughly one phase of the market.
