At the moment search option searches by thread title name which would be helpful in reduction of duplicates. Also Fxstat mark duplicates in suggestions section.
An advance search feature as you suggested will be good though
Search section is very similar to other forum sections. As sasha said, even if someone posts a duplicate suggestion, fxstat will mark it as duplicate.
